Getting to Melton

Thanks to its excellent location, Melton can be easily and relatively quickly reached from most parts of the county as well as London and other major cities, including those that are a bit further away. Depending on your preferences and time available, you may consider the following options:

Train. Though trains ceased to operate in Melton in the mid-1950s, public pressure eventually brought results and since 1984, it is possible to get to and from Melton by train again. The station has a single platform only but there are regular services on an hourly basis to the towns of Lowestoft and Ipswich.

If you choose to both get in and from Melton by train, please note that there is no ticket sale at the station. If you have ticket to Melton only, purchase the ticket from Melton to your final destination from the conductor or train guard. Also, if there is no direct train to Melton from the site of your departure, you can travel to Ipswich or Woodbridge and then catch a train for Melton.

Bus. Again, you won’t have any difficulties getting to Melton by bus but you will probably have to get off in Ipswich and then catch a local bus to the village. The same goes for getting from Melton to your final destination. However, you can also take a taxi to get from Ipswich to Melton and vice versa. At least there are excellent bus connections to Ipswich from all larger towns, both from inside and outside the county.
By car. This is without a doubt the most convenient and the fastest way to get to Melton from anywhere in the UK. Simply follow the directions to Ipswich and continue via A12 until reaching the intersection with A1152. Exit to A1152 and continue driving for about half a mile and you’re there!
By plane. London Stansted and Norwich International airports are the closest airports to Melton. To get to Melton from either of the two airports, you can take a bus to Ipswich but you can also reach the city by train from Norwich. Expect to travel about 2 hours by bus from both airports. By train, you will need about 40 minutes to get to Ipswich. To get to Melton, take a bus, train or taxi in Ipswich.
